When I say growth I do not necessarily mean growth of muscles, it could be getting stronger at a squat, quicker 5k time or holding a plank longer.
10 reps + 30-60 sec rest period = growth
Train 3/5 times a week + 2/4 days rest = growth
Work hard for 12 weeks + holiday/time off for 1 week = growth
Overtraining or undercovering is not going to get you anywhere fast. This can be applied everywhere.
Burning the candle at both ends with work for 6 months, chances of you then making mistakes shoot up.
I recently wrote in an email (get my next email: https://mailchi.mp/2bfc46736e59/je-training) about comparing yourself to a Porsche.
Imagine your friend buys a Porsche 911 and they drive it like an old lady, the rev counter never goes above 2000RMP – what a waste!! This is the same as someone who does not train/work their heart, muscles or lungs.
Now imagine that same friend drives the Porsche like they stole it, rubber burning constantly and chewing through a lot of petrol! How long before something happens, they need new tyres perhaps? – This is the same as hammering your body at the gym, at work and just not giving your body the rest it needs sometimes!
Yes, our bodies need to be pushed, but we also need to listen to our body when they are screaming for a day off.
Stress + Rest = Growth.
