Weights VS Cardio

Those of you who train with me know I lean heavily towards weight/resistance training over cardiovascular, not just in your training sessions but in my own training as well - Here is why!
For very 1lbs of muscle your body will burn an additional 50 calories per day (based on average human).
I am not against cardio, it has its place, but I am against people thinking to lose weight you must go for a run every day.
I am going to use myself as an example, in lockdown I ran a 5k (a slow 5k at that!!) but I burnt just under 500 calories. I am 6ft 1 and 92kg (14stone 7).

Based off 50 calories per 1lbs; 500 calories are roughly equal to 10lbs of muscle mass, which I have. (There is a long formula used to work out lean body mass vs actual muscle mass… it is boring hence why I have not written it out)
I digress, so not only am I burning an extra 500 calories per day from doing absolutely nothing but having muscle on my skeleton. Read that again.
I am also burning the 300-500 calories in my actual training session.
Imagine this, you weight train 3-5 times a week, you get stronger, burn more body fat and transform the way your body looks. Find me a negative?!
Like I said at the beginning, I am not against cardio training. Doing both weight training and cardio training I advise, but lean towards weight training if your goal is to burn fat more easily.
Trust me when I say this, you want to have muscle.
Josh.
